About Me

Born in Haarlem (Netherlands), October 8, 1980

  • MA Philosophy (2011)
  • BA French (2006)

I am a PhD candidate in the Philosophy of Language and Logic at the Institute for Logic, Language and Computation (ILLC), Faculty of Humanities, University of Amsterdam (UvA).

I am interested in the semantics of open questions. My PhD research explores the semantic justification and formalization of open questions within the framework of Inquisitive Semantics. See the Semantics section for a full description. My supervisor is Jeroen Groenendijk.

In my spare time I practice various styles of Martial Arts and love to listen to music, and make some myself from time to time. As for the Martial Arts, I practice under guidance of Qiu Rong Zhao at Jing Wu Kung Fu. Think of Tai Chi Quan, Xing Yi Quan, San Shou (Chinese Kickboxing), but also Qi Gong / Dao Yin (Eight Brocades and Yi Jin Jing), Xing Yi Nei Gong, Mu Chui and Chan (Zen) meditation. As for the music, I listen to music from Anon. to Zappa, passing through a lot of Classical, Blues, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Electronic and other music. Favorite composers: Béla Bartók, Charles Mingus, Wynton Marsalis, Quasimoto. Every once in a while I like trying out instruments: guitar, lute and vihuela de mano, but also piano and drums. Double bass is on my wish list too.
